For Students
Our Teaching Artists and Maker Facilitators work with students PreK-12 to facilitate student-driven projects created from household recycled materials and treasures from Rediscover's Creative Reuse Warehouse. This is no sit-and-watch class. Students spend most of their time actively creating. Hands-on, minds-on!
One off workshops, field trips, short residencies, and semester-long programs are available. Themes for these series can include houses, costumes, cities, inventions, general open maker sessions, and custom projects related to your current curriculum. Options for cardboard, upcycled materials crafting, and woodworking, each with the appropriate toolsets.
For Teachers
At your school, at conferences, at a Rediscover Center, or online, Rediscover's Professional Development workshops are hands-on, fun, memorable, and full of skills and techniques you can use immediately.
Rediscover's Professional Development workshops come in modules that can be taken individually or as an arc to create a full day training or multi-week series. Typically 60-120 minutes, each module goes deep into one aspect of maker education. These modules provide a mix of hands-on activities, presentations, and educator discussions to customize the module’s concepts to each school’s needs. Getting hands-on simultaneously demonstrates classroom-ready activities and models how to support student-centered tinkering. Rediscover works with a lead educator before each module to understand your school’s goals and customize the program to fit.
Our workshops cover topics such as:
- Teaching Power Tool Safety
- What is Maker Education?
- Bringing Sustainable Maker-Based Education into the Classroom
- Cardboard for Every Classroom
- Sustainable Making for STEM
- Sustainable Making for Visual Arts
- Cardboard Connections/Attachment Techniques
- Starting and Growing a Recycled Materials Collection Program
- Incorporating Project Based Learning into Academic Units
- Designing a School Makerspace Teachers Actually Want to Use
- Makerspace Tools from Scissors to Laser Cutters
