Rediscover operates the amazing iStudio makerspace at Santa Monica High School. We are working with SMMUSD to open that space this summer for Middle School Maker Camp. Registration will open later this winter. To pre-register, fill out the Middle School Maker Camp Interest Form.
Middle School Maker Camp is a new half-day program from Rediscover that gives youth entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grades access to a professional-grade makerspace with facilitation to design and build complete projects. Including Rediscover’s beloved upcycled materials, skills building classes, ambitious and achievable project arcs, and talented teachers from some of LA’s top high school makerspaces, Middle School Maker Camp is built for youth who love to design, make, and tinker.

Session 1 - June 23-July 11 - Character Design - $1,200
Design a character through cosplay, costuming, sculpture, and/or puppets
Session 2 - July 14-July 25 - Fantastic Inventions - $800
Invent solutions to a problem in your life, for a friend, or for a fictional character

Julian Rich (they/he)
Makerspace educator and interdisciplinary artist committed to creative reuse, repair, and sustainability. Julian’s work challenges the culture of disposability, emphasizing that objects—and people—are meant to be cared for, not discarded. Their artistic practice spans woodworking, mold making, textiles, and interactive design, using repurposed materials to honor memory and sustain belonging. As an educator, Mx. Rich develops inclusive curricula, expands makerspace access, and teaches repair skills to empower learners of all ages. By bridging hands-on making with community care, Julian fosters spaces where creativity, resilience, and sustainability thrive, encouraging deeper connections to the materials and stories that shape everyday life.
