Meet the Facilitators: Amara Leipzig

Amara Leipzig is a Lead Facilitator, working at reDiscover Center since the beginning of 2019. They are an artist and educator with 6 years of teaching experience, working with kids from ages 5 to 65. Their artwork largely focuses on turning reclaimed materials into functional art objects via weaving and woodworking as Forgotten Hand Studio. During the school year, Amara is an Enrichment Teacher & TA at Odyssey Charter School.

In another life, they managed production in warehouses, and their interest in carpentry and woodworking developed from there. They are a printmaker, book maker, comic artist, wood worker, and weaver - but not in that order. Amara has a BFA with Thesis from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
