Director Emerita and Board Member
Co-founder and former Executive Director of the reDiscover Center, Mary Beth Trautwein brings problem solving skills developed from a career in design and her passion for nature to inform our programs and services. She strives to bring reDiscover?s mission to life by connecting with artists and environmentalists in the community. This has led to notable collaborative efforts such as the Discovery by Nature in-school art program with the Children?s Nature Institute and the 2013 GLOWmasphere in Santa Monica. ?The DIY and maker movements are intersecting with the realization that our consumption is trashing the planet. It is an exciting time for reDiscover to grow and meet the needs of the local schools and community.?
She received her MFA in Museum Exhibition Planning from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and a BS in Visual Communication from the University of Delaware. She moved to Los Angeles in 1995 to join the staff of the J. Paul Getty Museum exhibition design team that created the permanent and opening exhibitions for the museum. The times spent with her grandmother cutting paper dolls, in the basement at her father?s work bench or in the backyard ?mini-barn? built by her grandfather all inform her desire for reDiscover to be a place for people to make and create resourcefully.
