Board of Directors

President

William Robertson is Director of Project Management at commercial real estate services firm Studley. With over a decade of experience Will’s strength is in green building techniques, strategic planning, development and construction management. Prior to joining Studley Will founded Balance Development, a general contracting and project management firm that focused on environmentally sustainable custom construction. Will is a graduate of the Cornell University College of Architecture Art and Planning and is a LEED Certified professional.

Immediate Past President

Sylvia Gentile teaches Science, Writing and Art in a multi-age classroom (6-8 year olds) at UCLA Lab School in Los Angeles. She also teaches in the school's outreach programs for teachers, Critical Thinking Institute and the Early Literacy Institute. She utilizes recycled and reclaimed materials extensively in her project-based curriculum. "I find that materials from reDiscover spark imagination and inventiveness that I don't see with the use of conventional art materials Children just love building and inventing the most magical creations with these open-ended materials." Ms. Gentile has taught in public elementary education since 2000. She is also the mother of two college-aged children and is active in her community on education and environmental issues.

Kristy Pace has been a professional artist and teacher for over 16 years. She is the founding Artistic Director of Pocket Full of Tales Theatre Company and has had the pleasure of teaching children to create art, both visual and performing, from Coast to Coast. She has an MA in Theatre Education from Emerson College and currently directs PFOT year round programs in CA, MA and GA.

David Pava first became involved with ReDiscover through their participation in Santa Monica's 2008 GLOW Festival. He is a senior product manager at D3Publisher of America, Inc., a worldwide video game publisher and the founder of Problem Solver, a consulting agency whose focus includes marketing and brand building for non-profits. David is a graduate of the University of Michigan.

Director

With a background in design Mary Beth Trautwein has always been interested in the process of learning and the arts. When her daughter, now 10, was in preschool she was part of the group of Westside parents who formed the reDiscover Center. In the five years since then she has studied the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education and in 2007 visited the infant toddlers centers of Reggio Emilia Italy. She continually strives to improve the quality of reDiscover’s programs and has completed the Los Angeles County Arts for All Artist Training Program as well has being actively involved with the Southern California Environmental Educators network. She has presented nationally about the use of open- ended, reusable materials. She has an MA from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia and formerly worked at the J. Paul Getty Museum.
